Fundamentals of frequency converters and rotating field technology

E2.5.3.2

This lab course utilises training panels in panel frames. The power supply for the frequency converter is provided by an inverter directly from the mains network (mains voltage 230 V).

Description

Objective

  • Protective measures and electrical safety
  • Components of a frequency converter with variable voltage link
  • Setting parameters for frequency converters
  • Gaining skill in measurement techniques
  • Measurements with Converter Controller CASSY

This equipment set offers an insight into the circuitry of frequency converters with variable voltage link. Measurements are made on the components of a frequency converter especially designed for educational purposes. The experiments use a static electronic load, which facilitates the evaluation of current and voltage curves. A rotating field with variable frequency is also investigated. The following components can be accessed:

  • DC link
  • IGBT H-bridge
  • Brake chopper
  • 3-phase inverter

Highlights:

  • The measurements are carried out with the Converter Controller CASSY.
  • All measuring channels are potential-free and can therefore be used freely.
  • All measurements can be carried out with or without a computer.

All functions of the Converter Controller CASSY can be operated quickly and directly via the display, the rotary wheel and the buttons on the unit. All settings and measurement results can be saved on the unit and quickly called up again later or simply downloaded.
